Quit telling me how I should age.
Yes, my body is aging and my mind wandering and wondering. I feel as though my soul is searching; searching for that level of acceptance, or at least acknowledgement, of the aging process written oh so favorably in magazine articles. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? I so want to be that person describing my lack of elasticity as some proof of a life well lived. Don’t get me wrong, I am filled with infinite gratitude for my life and aware I look pretty darn good ‘for my age’.
Hordes of books tell me to how to age gracefully, that I should embrace the changes of aging, that I should age fearlessly AND that I can actually win at aging. Am I to understand that I should graciously and joyfully welcome the changes in one big bear hug? That my fears are unfounded AND I’ll finally be winning a prize??
GET REAL. THE FOLLOWING (ACTUAL) TITLES ARE MORE LIKE IT:
“Old Age Ain’t for Whimps”
“Say NO to Aging”
“Old Age is a Terminal Illness”
“Gracefully Grasping for Dignity”
“Living in the Light of Death”
“The Living End”
“Before I Forgot”
Personally I want to live the good long life, outlive my enemies, anti-age and unlock the fountain of youth by aging backwards. But if you wish to take the aging gracefully pathway there is a book that offers a toolkit for the journey.
Go at it.
There are some women, under the guise of universal feminism, bullying those of us still hitting the bottle with their ‘gray’ rhetoric. They claim we must go gray in order to present an authentic version of ourselves. And here’s the book to make it happen: “Amazing Grays: A Woman’s Guide to Making the Next 50 the BEST 50”.
So go gray OR pay good money to be a ‘natural’ blonde LIKE ME. Find the grace or attempt to reverse the signs. I say, how you choose to pack on those years is no one else’s business. Whether you choose to pay for assistance, read the 16 anti-aging strategies that promise to make the best of your golden years or wanna let it all hang out… do what feels authentic to YOU.
